Wireless network

High performance Wi-Fi for a hospital campus.

How can a medium-sized hospital Wi-Fi network be replaced during a pandemic situation?

As part of the modernization, the hospital management selected a new Wi-Fi manufacturer to completely replace their old system.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the expansion and extension of the Wi-Fi capacities at all six campuses had to be brought forward and expanded up to 2,300 access points.

While many coverage areas were immediately accessible due to proven and tested processes, the changeover processes in the intensive care areas had to be defined in a more complex way.

In order to exclude unexpected effects during the changeover, several trial runs were carried out for each ward before the mass rollout.

In the project, the timing of the changeover should be highlighted:

The switchover to the new Wi-Fi system was carried out during the day to immediately load test all services and eliminate errors in time.

As a result, the medical intensive care units had to be manually monitored for 60 minutes, but users did not notice the changeover as the interruption lasted less than 2 minutes.
